ELECTRIC MOTORS LESSON PLAN
This engaging lesson plan, created for my University of Alberta Science Curriculum course, introduces students to the fascinating connection between electricity and magnetism through interactive demonstrations and hands-on exploration. The lesson kicks off with an original demonstration I created that vividly showcases how opposing magnetic fields can produce motion and how electromagnets can sustain continuous rotation.Â
Students then dive into a lab activity, building their own simple electric motors, connecting theoretical concepts to practical application. The accompanying demo video, recorded live in my university curriculum classroom in front of my peers, highlights the creativity and effectiveness of the teaching methods used in this lesson.
Below you find the lesson plan, demo videos, and supplemental materials used in this lesson.
